“If you have a reliable, high speed internet connection you have a great opportunity to exploit the resources of reputable e-Learning providers, thus strengthening all business and technical areas within your company”
Keeping your small business going is demanding and varied work!
Any company needs a competent, confident work force that gets the job done and is able to demonstrate to new and existing customers that you are on top of everything. New orders, invoicing, company website maintenance – these are all things that you can’t afford to get wrong. You may not want to divert valuable financial resources into the hiring of consultants or other third-party specialists who may be able to help you achieve these things. So what is the answer?
Releasing staff to attend an external training facility is not really cost effective, and may not get you the results you need. Why not try e-Learning, otherwise known as Computer Based Training (CBT)? Your staff can do their training at their desks. The CBT packages employed can be tailored to suit your company. Time spent away from their normal duties is minimised.
Training for wherever you are
CBT packages are great for vocational training and can come from many different sources. The Open University, Learndirect and Mindleaders are great options to get you started, all offering a wide range of training courses at different levels. You can choose from courses covering basic knowledge of a particular activity right up to post-graduate level in academic subjects. If it is a professional qualification that you are looking for CBT courses can help you with that too. Completion of such courses can lead to the award of recognised qualifications. Or, if all you need is a certificate that says you completed modules of a course, or even the whole course, they will be provided on request.
Access to CBT can be achieved in different ways. The simplest and quickest way to get started is for your organisation to subscribe to a training package and have it available via a direct internet connection or downloaded to the company intranet. Students then just sign in and the course can be followed at their own pace. They can even redo sections or whole modules of a course if necessary. Once the package is paid for it can be accessed many times.
A less common way is to have video or CD-ROM resources at an individual work station or projected onto a screen so that a number of students can follow the course simultaneously.
For small business needs
A small company needs quick results from their e-Learning investment. You want your employees trained up and effective as soon as possible and CBT really is the perfect way to achieve this, whatever the subject to be studied. Employees can do their training at convenient times according to the work schedule. In other words, it’s business as usual while your people learn some new, valuable skills.
